wow addiction

Early this week we were talking about addiction playing video games. One game that surprised me very much was the game named wow, or World of Warcraft. They told me that people all over the world were addicted to this game. I asked myself how can someone be so attracted to game that their eating and sleeping would be effected. People would not even take the time to sleep. Now you know that's an addiction. One fact I found extremely disturbing was when they told me, that parents in china would be so addicted to this game that their children died because of neglecting them. I just could not believe this, it just disgusted me. I believe that if a video game is that important so someone for them to be able to knowingly murder there childern should not be aloud get rid of it.

Barbie

Barbie was a very interesting presentation to me. It made me realize that Barbie was and still is an impact in adolescent girls. Barbie is perfect, she has a perfect body, perfect hair and every little girl wants to be just like Barbie. Barbie has a small waist, boobs, and perfect hips, they were making Barbie to perfect. Because of this girls were becoming to have eating disorders, and the makers of Barbie had to make Barbie more human like. They made Barbie with a bigger waist but also enlarged her breasts making her basically have the same body just a bigger Barbie. One fact that I found interesting was that when they told me they made a pregnant Barbie they had stop selling it because she did not have a wedding ring on. Overall I really enjoyed listing to this presentation, because Barbie was a big part of my life also.

Going Home

I know this not be an important blog, but I went h0me this weekend. It was so much fun, I was homesick for a few weeks at the beginning of the semester but finally I got to go home and see my baby sister. She has grown so much, its amazing how some one can change in so many ways, in such little time. I had not seen her for two months, that's a long time for me, seeing how I spent everyday with her this summer. She has learned so much English, she tells me she loves me, goodnight, good morning, I just about cried seeing her for the first time in two months. Next weekend is her 3year old birthday party, and I cant wait to see her again. I love you Kassandra

Movie NC17

So the beginning of the movie was extremely disturbing to be. It showed, and over exceeded the amount of sexual contact, or interaction with male and female. To me that is not normal, I don't see that often at all, and if I would have known if that is what I would be seeing, I would have stepped outside the room. I do understand that they showed these things because they were trying to prove a point. A point on saying how a movie is ratted. Movies that a ratted NC17 means that no one under the age of 17 can see the movie. The people that are suppose to be ratting these movies are suppose to be normal, US families. In reality some of these people that are trying to tell us these movies are to adult for the children's eye are people that are not really normal US families. On the other hand they are rich and successful people and might not even have kids and if they do they over the age of 21. To me its extremely difficult to understand why they would do this, because a normal US family is not rich and have kids over the age of 21. They "family" that I talk about keep there identify secret, why you ask? I don't know they feel like they need to keep their identity secret because of there safety. I truly think that the people that should be ratting these movies should be random people and random families.

Radio

War of the Worlds
Wow.... Hearing the Radio show, "The War of the Worlds," from the Internet was very interesting to me. Not knowing that power of mass media was huge. Making people actually believe the things said on the radio were true and cause panic. I do realize that radio was pretty much the only type of communication they did have in the old days, and because of this it would be understandable if someone would make a mistake. The Radio Play was about Martians invading New Jersey in 1938, they lied and fooled people making them believe that Martians were really invading New Jersey. People counted on the radio to give them true and correct news, and because of this they believed it. It was said that 1 out of every 12people believed that this story of Martians invading New Jersey was true. This same trick was played on the people of Quito, Ecuador, only this time it was taken much more serious. People are very scared and don't know what to do. Many dedicated catholics did what they thought best and took there family to the nearest church. Solders from the army were getting ready to fight in reality nothing, and men were confessing of adultery. When people found out it was a fake, they become extremely angry. When this occurred a riot of people went to the radio station to burn it down. Six people were killed in this riot. That made me extremely sad, knowing that people were dying because of a joke. But I guess that's what happens when all you can depend on is media radio to tell you the news.
